Eddie Lee: Capturing the Skies of the WIld Atlantic Way

Based in the wild beauty of Sligo, Eddie Lee is a photographer captivated by the raw drama of Ireland’s Atlantic coast and the ancient mystique of its Neolithic landscapes. His work—spanning sweeping seascapes, brooding mountains, and ethereal night skies—draws deeply from a lifetime immersed in the untamed west.

What began as a creative escape during the 2020 lockdown quickly became a calling. “It was like an epiphany,” Eddie reflects. “Suddenly, I was free to chase the light—to photograph Sligo’s skies and shores, wonders I’d always known but never fully explored.”

Since then, Eddie’s evocative imagery has earned acclaim from figures like actor Chris O’Dowd and Astronomy Ireland, while his prints adorn walls worldwide, including the Irish Embassies in Nigeria and Romania. His commercial collaborations celebrate Sligo’s spirit, from contributing to Fáilte Ireland’s National Content Pool and promoting tourism with Sligo Walks, to projects with The White Hag Brewery, Lough Gill Distillery, and the Heritage Council.

Equally passionate about portraiture, Eddie has crafted striking portraits of musicians, writers, and artists—among them actor Brían F. O’Byrne, sculptor Barra Cassidy, musician Eamonn Cagney and Leonard Barry, writers Una Mannion and Martha Higgins and poet Christine Henneman. His portrait of Kieran Devaney, below, entitled “Seafarin’ Man”, was chosen for the 2023 Cairde Visual exhibition.

In 2024 Eddie’s image “Queen Maeve’s Aurora” (below) was voted into the DIAS “Reach for the Stars” astrophotography competition in Dublin.

A lifelong musician turned visual storyteller, Eddie sharpens his craft under global masters, learning from Polish surrealist portraitist Damian Drewniak to attending workshops in Norway’s fjords and La Palma’s volcanic peaks. His debut solo exhibition (Hyde Bridge Gallery, 2021) and role as lead photographer for Sligo’s RIOT project underscore his dynamic vision.
