Description
My favourite place when the sun is setting, at low tide, is Cummeen Strand, at the causeway where you can walk or drive to Coney Island from the mainland. It is a place of wonderful colour and reflections at that time of the evening and I have been known to utter whoops of delight at the visuals I was presented with on that beautiful causeway.
The “big house” on Coney Island, known in various histories as “Floods” or “Dorrans”, depending on which of the former residents gets a namecheck, stands ruined and desolate, one of the great landmarks of Coney Island and, indeed, Sligo bay. It took a jog across the causeway from me to capture the sun setting over the Big Bleak House.
