“Reflection of Kings” – Benbulben on the Tidal Mirror
There is a moment on Cummeen Strand, Sligo, when the tide has retreated with a held breath, that the world doubles itself. This is one of my favourite places on Earth—a vast, glistening plain where sky and earth merge, and the ancient, sleeping giant of Benbulben is cradled perfectly below.
In this quiet hour, the mountain does not merely cast a reflection; it is reborn in the wet sand. The formidable silhouette, the storied tabletop summit that guards Sligo’s legends, becomes a serene, inverted twin. Every detail of its rugged face and the clouds that carve shadows on its sides is painted with perfect clarity upon a canvas of still water and satin-smooth sediment. The magic of this causeway to Coney Island is that it exists in two states: a solid path by day and a celestial mirror in the twilight, each holding its own quiet, profound spell.
This image, captured in the soft light of March 2024, freezes that fleeting duality—the enduring strength of stone and the ephemeral, perfect stillness of water. It is an invitation to contemplate the profound calm that exists when a landscape finds its perfect echo.
This photograph is available to bring this serene duality into your space in multiple formats, including Gallery-Wrapped Canvas, archival Giclee Fine Art prints, and stunning modern Acrylic prints. Each medium offers a unique way to experience the depth and light of this moment. If you desire a format or size not listed in the shop, please contact me directly for a custom quote.
