In my role as Artistic Director of Sligo Jazz Project I am proud to be promoting Ireland’s biggest International Jazz Day celebrations on April 30 2016. Will try to post some photos and videos of the great day… there are 7 separate events, starting at 11am in Lyons Café and ending late night in Tricky’s McGarrigles. David Lyttle headlines with a wonderful trio of my friend and mentor, world renowned bassist John Goldsby and saxophonist Tom Harrison. Also performing are Sligo Academy of Music Jazz Orchestra under the wonderful leadership of Stan Burns and Con Schmaucks, they will raise money for the North West Hospice, so please support their performance from 2-4pm at Quayside Shopping Centre!
Music Generation & Sligo Chamber Music Festival have a workshop at 2pm in the Model focussing on improv and composition, and The Old Market Street Swing Band play Hargadons at 4. My trio The Eddie Lee 3 will perform on two of these, featuring Ciaran Wilde on sax & clarinet and Patrick Gilbert on piano. The night finishes in Trickys with a double header, David’s trio followed by the Soul Collective to party into the night.
Lots of great music on offer, this took some work but will be worth it! The full jazz day line up is on the Sligo Jazz website here.
